Black Tower

From Wotpedia

The Black Tower is a partially-walled fortress less than a day's walk from the city of Caemlyn, in Andor. Established in the very recent past by Rand al'Thor, its purpose is to train men who can channel, as well, it seems, to house and nurture certain inventors, engineers, and scientists. Originally, it was known only as "the farm", since it was little more than a farm house and land surrounding it. However, as time went on, students there felt it should have a name, and came up with it to balance the Aes Sedai White Tower.

With the removal of the taint on saidin by Rand al'Thor and Nynaeve al'Meara, the Black Tower may gain a more permanent existence.

Hierarchy

As a military organization, the Black Tower's hierarchy is rigid.

Soldiers

Soldiers are the lowest class of channelers at the Tower. At this rank, men are given the characteristic black coat of the Black Tower initiates. Soldiers are often used for mundane tasks, such as delivering messages and establishing gateways.

Dedicated

Dedicated are a step up from Soldiers. They where a silver sword pin on their collars to distinguish their rank.

Asha'man

Asha'man are fully-trained channelers. They are awarded gold-and-red Dragon pins to where on their collars opposite the sword pins.

"Leaders"

Mazrim Taim, M'hael, or 'the leader', has established several other ranks beside the three outlined by al'Thor. Two of these ranks have been revealed so far:

  • Baijan'm'hael - "attack leader"
  • Tsorovan'm'hael - "storm leader"

Taim himself also styles himself "Leader," having given himself the title of M'hael. In the Old Tongue, M'hael implies absolute leadership over everything.
